Specialist - Project Monitoring Engineer

is responsible for monitoring projects that are under construction and ensuring they comply with the PWPA requirements, the relevant codes, best practices and HSQE polices and are completed in a timely manner.

The Specialist shall be aware of the technical considerations which impact the long-term performance of the assets when overseeing the construction activities of the Project Company.

The Specialist is also responsible for providing continuous feedback and support to foster Directorate improvement efforts.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction projects from conception to completion (i.e. commissioning)
  • Ensure completion of EWEC’s contractual commitments under the PWPA agreements, or otherwise, to facilitate the construction activities of the Project Company and the EPC contractor in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Oversee the day-to-day construction activities in compliance with project specification, scope of work, project schedule and other application requirements
  • Monitor compliance with construction and safety regulations in close coordination with Legal and Regulatory
  • Ensure adherence to construction standards and the use of construction techniques
  • Ensure all changes to the project specifications, scope of work and schedule are properly documented
  • Identify construction risks, determine suitable mitigation plans and raise risks to the Construction Director when required
  • Detailed reviewing of the contractors’ baseline schedule vs actual progress, identify construction forecasts to completion and highlight significant schedule risks
  • Monitor construction productivity and performance and investigate reasons for unsatisfactory performance which includes providing recommendations for enhancing performance
  • Review weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts and report the status of projects to the Asset Management team
  • Creation and maintenance to critical project documents including risk/severity matrices, project schedules, project dashboards and other relevant project monitoring and control documentation
  • Coordination with the System Operator and TAQA-Transmission throughout the engineering and construction of the various project interfaces which may include the electrical/mechanical (water)/communication integration works into the existing network

Standard Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the directorate strategy, policies and procedures in alignment with the organisational/ directorate objectives and update it periodically as required to meet the changing needs of EWEC
  • Implement all relevant department policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner
  • Develop the identified opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’ and changes in business environment and leveraging insights. This includes leading and directing the related change management efforts
  • Promote and ensure adherence to EWEC values (including sustainability, integrity, collaboration and innovation)
  • Ensure that construction reports are prepared in a comprehensive, accurate and timely manner, and meet regulatory and organisational requirements and standards

Minimum Requirements-

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in infrastructure construction, of which 1 years in a project engineer position, preferably in a:
  • Diverse/multicultural business industry (obtained from medium to large organisation)
  • Multi-national company
  • Energy and utility sector
