About the opportunity
Looking to turn what you’ve learned at university into real-world software?
Our Cambridge Software Engineering team is building Jetstream, a new cloud-native platform that enables engineering teams and their partners to review product designs, share feedback and make decisions together securely and in real time.
We’re looking for curious and motivated students to join us for a Summer 2027 Software Engineering Internship in Cambridge.
This isn’t an internship where you’ll spend the summer watching from the sidelines. You’ll join an experienced engineering team, contribute to real projects and write code that supports a real product. Our Cambridge graduate messaging specifically positions early-career engineers as trusted members of the team who contribute real code from day one.
What you'll do
As a Software Engineering Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Work alongside experienced software engineers on Jetstream.
Contribute to the design, development, testing and improvement of cloud-based software.
Write clean, maintainable code and receive feedback through code reviews.
Solve real engineering problems and learn how software is developed in a professional environment.
Participate in team discussions, Agile development practices and technical problem-solving.
Learn how modern SaaS applications are built, tested and deployed.
Explore how AI can be incorporated into modern software products and engineering workflows, an area the Cambridge team has already identified as important for both the product and engineers joining the group.
Collaborate with engineers across different teams and locations.
Jetstream's current engineering environment includes technologies such as TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, Angular, PostgreSQL, Git/GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes, Azure and automated testing, so interns may gain exposure to some of these technologies depending on their project and team.
What we’re looking for
You don’t need to know everything already. Curiosity, willingness to learn and strong fundamentals matter more to us than having professional experience.
We’d love to hear from you if you:
Are currently studying Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical degree.
Have experience programming through university coursework, personal projects, hackathons or other activities.
Have worked with at least one programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, C/C++ or similar.
Understand basic software engineering and programming concepts.
Enjoy solving problems and figuring out how things work.
Are comfortable collaborating with others and sharing ideas.
Are curious about new technologies, cloud software and AI.
Are willing to learn, experiment, ask questions and receive feedback.
Can take ownership of a task while knowing when to ask for help.
Previous professional software engineering experience is not required.
What you'll get from the internship
You’ll be part of a supportive engineering environment where you can:
Gain hands-on experience building real software.
Learn from experienced engineers and receive guidance from your team.
Develop your technical skills beyond the classroom.
Understand the full software development lifecycle.
Experience how an international engineering organisation collaborates to build cloud software.
Build your professional network and learn more about potential future opportunities at PTC.
This matches how the Cambridge internship experience has previously been described to students: interns have a mentor, work as part of a team on projects, and are expected to bring curiosity, adaptability and collaboration.
The internship can also serve as a genuine early-career pipeline. In previous Cambridge intern discussions, the intention was that successful internships could potentially lead to opportunities after graduation, while making clear that this depends on the outcome of the internship and future opportunities.
Why Cambridge?
PTC opened its Cambridge office in December 2025, creating a new engineering hub around Jetstream. Cambridge was chosen in part because of its history in computer-aided design and product lifecycle management and its strong engineering and technology community.
You'll be joining a growing, international engineering environment where you can learn, contribute and see the impact of what you build.
Great products start here. Come and discover what you could build with us.
Life at PTC is about more than working with today’s most cutting-edge technologies to transform the physical world. It’s about showing up as you are and working alongside some of today’s most talented industry leaders to transform the world around you.
If you share our passion for problem-solving through innovation, you’ll likely become just as passionate about the PTC experience as we are. Are you ready to explore your next career move with us?
