Software Engineer, CDP - Foundations

Role overview

What you'll do

• Build, deploy, and maintain scalable, secure, high-performing backend services in microservices and distributed architectures.
• Define internal and customer-facing APIs as CDP building blocks, with clean design and a strong developer experience.
• Lead features from implementation through deployment and monitoring.
• Address technical debt and improve team reliability and observability.
• Participate in code reviews and on-call rotation, lead incident response, and foster constructive feedback and code quality.

Required skills and experience

• 2+ years of professional experience building and maintaining production backend services in a microservices or distributed-systems environment.
• Experience designing and shipping internal or customer-facing APIs focused on clean interfaces and developer experience.
• Familiarity with deployment and testing in microservice ecosystems, including structured observability and monitoring tools.
• Clearly communicate technical trade-offs in writing and live discussions with cross-functional partners.
• Use generative AI tools responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready work and improve efficiency, cost, and quality.

Compensation

• Annual base salary range is $152,405–$179,300 USD, varying by location; equity and bonus eligibility may also be included.

Workplace

• Coinbase is remote-first but not remote-only, with quarterly in-person working sessions called surges.
