Software Development Engineer II, Localization
Role Overview
Remitly's Global Experience Platform team makes our products globally ready by design. We build the internationalization (i18n) infrastructure, translation pipelines, and AI-powered tooling that let every customer experience Remitly as locally made, whatever their language, script, or locale. Your work will reach millions of customers across 18+ languages and 175+ countries, many of them immigrants supporting family back home. You'll help Remitly launch new countries and languages faster and raise the quality of localized experiences in the markets we already serve, working as an equal partner with our Localization team.
You Will
Develop high-quality, reusable, and scalable code involving multiple technologies (React Native, TypeScript, Go, Java/Kotlin, AWS), delivering well-tested, observable, documented, efficient, scalable, and resilient solutions with a customer-centric mindset.
Leverage modern AI-powered development tools to deliver faster while maintaining quality and security standards.
Drive internationalization improvements across the customer experience by building and operating translation pipelines and i18n tooling integrated with our TMS and CI/CD.
Contribute to the technical roadmap of our localization systems, balancing short-term goals with long-term scalability and maintainability in shared i18n frameworks, AI/LLM-powered translation tools, and integration into localization pipelines.
Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, designers, and analysts to achieve outstanding customer experiences in every language and locale.
Contribute to code reviews, sprint rituals, hiring, and mentoring.
Bring a well-informed point of view and a commitment to the best customer experience, whatever the customer's language, script, or locale, and deliver creative solutions quickly.
Report to the Engineering Manager of the Localization team.
You Have
Strong computer science, web, and native app fundamentals, and knowledge of design patterns, plus working knowledge of Unicode, ICU/CLDR, and locale-aware formatting.
3+ years of software development experience, ideally including internationalization or localization.
Professional experience with one of the following programming languages: TypeScript, JavaScript, Kotlin, Java, Go.
Knowledge of basic architecture, systems design, and agile practices.
