Job Summary

Core Technical Skills

• Install, configure, and manage IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.
• Install, configure, and manage IBM IMS Tools.
• Perform IMS systems programming.
• Establish policies and procedures for database management, disaster recovery, security, maintenance, and utilization.
• Review new IMS versions and advise clients on their benefits.
• Evaluate change requests and determine their impact.
• Consult vendors on technical problems and questions.
• Perform disaster recovery of application objects.
• Lead complex migrations from third-party products to IBM IMS Tools.
• Develop migration plans covering planning, conversion, implementation, cutover, and timelines.
• Conduct customer training and create IMS Tools migration presentations.

Database Skills and Operations

• Administer IMS databases.
• Use VSAM and OSAM access methods and understand full-function database organization types.
• Work with HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, and GSAM databases.
• Define and use logical databases.
• Work with HALDB structures including PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS, and PSINDEX.
• Work with Fast Path databases, including DEDBs.
• Perform database design, DBDGEN, PSBGEN, ACBGEN, online change, and IMS Catalog activities.
• Use secondary indexes and PROCOPT settings to manage processing and database locking.
• Monitor databases, manage space, report dataset usage, and resolve VSAM dataset space issues.

• BMC IMS Tools experience is optional.
• Broadcom IMS Tools experience is optional.
• z/OS scheduling expertise is optional.
• IMS DBA experience and production database troubleshooting are optional.

Requirements

• Experience installing, configuring, and managing IMS in a parallel sysplex environment.
• Experience installing, configuring, and managing IBM IMS Tools.
• Knowledge of IMS database organization using VSAM and OSAM access methods.
• Knowledge of full-function, HALDB, Fast Path, logical, and secondary-indexed IMS databases.
• Knowledge of DBD, PSB, and ACB generation and related IMS utilities.
• Knowledge of IMS Catalog, IMS management of ACBs, online change, database monitoring, and space management.
• BMC IMS Tools experience.
• Broadcom IMS Tools experience.
• z/OS scheduling expertise.
• IMS DBA experience and production database troubleshooting experience.
