Senior Storage Engineer

Role overview

Architecture and engineering

• Create solution intent, architectural vision, technology backlogs, and architecture roadmaps for complex solutions.
• Clarify architecture, assist with system design, and resolve architectural impediments through solution options.
• Lead complex architecture discussions and use practical experiments and proofs of concept to design flexible, modular solutions.
• Educate teams on technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices.
• Support technology stack selection and perform design and code reviews against non-functional requirements.

Storage strategy and governance

• Create and maintain storage blueprints, reference architectures, technology standards, strategic roadmaps, and lifecycle strategies.
• Define future-state architectures and transition plans for storage and data protection services.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, market trends, and vendor roadmaps for innovation and investment opportunities.
• Provide architecture governance and design reviews for strategic projects and application onboarding.

Planning and stakeholder support

• Work with Product Managers to define service capabilities, offerings, operational requirements, and customer adoption strategies.
• Collaborate with Vendor Managers and technology partners to influence product direction and drive feature adoption.
• Support capacity, scalability, performance, data protection, cyber resiliency, and disaster recovery initiatives.
• Author and present architecture recommendations to senior leadership, engineering, risk, and project stakeholders.

Required qualifications

• Experience engineering and operating hybrid cloud delivery models with data coherency across on-premises and off-premises components.
• Proficiency with PowerShell, Python, Bash, or another scripting language with testing and sound SDLC practices.
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP, and Azure hyperscalers.
• Familiarity with ESX hypervisors.
• Familiarity with Elastic Search and Kibana.

Preferred experience

• Experience with block storage such as Dell or Hitachi, file storage such as NetApp or Dell Unity, or backup solutions such as Networker or DataDomain is beneficial but not required.

Compensation

• The stated pay range is $39.30 to $61.40 per hour, with medical, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.

Workplace and contract

• The position is based in Salt Lake City, Utah and is onsite.
• The engagement is a contract lasting one year and one day.
