Overview

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship scalable, available, maintainable services; build deep familiarity with owned systems.
• Lead technical discussions, write design documents, and validate solutions through experiments and prototypes informed by feedback.
• Write maintainable code, mentor engineers, and lead reviews for correctness, security, reliability, diagnosability, and maintainability.
• Coordinate requirements, dependencies, milestones, estimates, and delivery tradeoffs with product and engineering stakeholders.
• Join the on-call rotation, investigate live-site incidents, implement mitigations and safe deployments, and write improvement-focused postmortems.
• Improve developer workflows with tooling, automation, and repeatable quality checks; share learnings and support an inclusive team culture.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
• Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including a Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
• Understanding of production system monitoring and observability.
• Critical thinking across system design and software engineering, applied pragmatically to project needs.
• Experience with large-scale architecture, cloud environments, distributed systems, and microservices.
• Experience collaborating with product management, design, and engineering teams on cross-functional projects.

Pay

• Typical US base pay is USD $119,800–$234,700 per year; a different range of USD $160,200–$261,000 per year applies in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
• Some roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
