Senior Software Engineer - Backend

Role overview

What you will accomplish

• Deliver large billing and financial workflow projects and maintain key code repositories.
• Design reliable services, APIs, and data models for billing, payments, payer integrations, and financial data movement.
• Establish data ownership, durable workflows, idempotent processing, validation, audit trails, and actionable operational signals.
• Resolve incidents and data discrepancies; break complex cross-functional work into manageable tasks.
• Partner with Product, Finance, Operations, Data, and engineering teams on requirements and technical strategy.
• Improve system maintainability, availability, performance, observability, tooling, and operational runbooks.
• Mentor junior engineers through reviews, pairing, design feedback, and knowledge sharing.
• Communicate technical ideas and document decisions and workflows.
• Apply AI technologies to engineering and operations while maintaining suitable financial-workflow review and control.

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software development experience.
• 4+ years of experience with a programming language and 4+ years across the software development life cycle.
• Experience delivering large production software projects or features.
• Proficiency in at least one of Golang, Python, Java, or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience designing and operating backend services, APIs, data models, and asynchronous or distributed workflows.
• Experience with relational databases and integrations requiring data integrity, failure handling, and observability.
• Ability to work effectively with cross-functional partners and communicate technical trade-offs.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with billing, payments, revenue, accounting, claims, or other financial systems.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, workflow orchestration, and scalable cloud services.
• Experience with Golang, Python, gRPC, Postgres, Redis, Temporal, or AWS.
• Experience improving data quality, operational visibility, incident response, or developer tooling.
• Experience mentoring or onboarding junior engineers.
• Experience using AI technologies for software design, coding assistance, or process automation.

Hybrid work model

• Hybrid role based in the San Francisco office, with in-person attendance three days each week for full 8-hour business days.
• Remote workdays are expected to align with core business hours, with flexibility.
• Travel is not regularly required, though occasional off-site or on-site events may occur.

Compensation
