Senior Software Engineer – Backend (Java, Spring Boot, AWS)

Role

Development and system design

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and applications focused on availability, performance, and security.
• Develop and maintain Java-based microservices and secure RESTful APIs.
• Use Terraform and AWS to automate cloud resource provisioning with Infrastructure as Code.
• Review and create system, software, and functional design specifications.
• Integrate Infrastructure as Code into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions.

Collaboration

• Lead product development through research, strategic planning, and collaboration with engineers and product leads.
• Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on code quality, unit testing, and security standards.
• Mentor engineers and promote team best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align with business objectives.

What you’ll bring

• University degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• 5+ years of backend development experience, including 2 years in a senior position.
• Excellent knowledge of Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience building REST APIs and web services, and with system integration and system design.
• Proficiency with databases such as Oracle and MongoDB.
• Ability to embrace Agile and understand complex business processes behind technical systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional experience

• Enterprise application experience with Java/Spring Boot, Angular, AWS/Terraform, Oracle or PostgreSQL, and MongoDB or DocumentDB is a differentiator.
• Insurance industry experience is a plus.

Compensation

• Salary band is $115,000–$165,000; individual compensation depends on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
