The role

Engineering ownership

• Deliver squad features and modules end to end, from requirements and design through build, release, and support.
• Write production code across the full stack, including responsive interfaces, backend services, and APIs.
• Prepare low-level designs and contribute to system-design discussions using object-oriented principles and design patterns.
• Build and maintain APIs, data models, background workflows, reusable components, and libraries.
• Profile and optimize performance and help ensure features remain dependable as usage grows.

Quality and collaboration

• Add logging and monitoring, respond to incidents, debug problems, contribute to root-cause analysis, and implement lasting fixes.
• Support meaningful tests, code reviews, CI/CD, and deployment practices.
• Mentor junior engineers through pairing and code reviews.
• Work with product managers, designers, and the Lead Software Engineer to clarify scope, surface technical risks, and make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Build proofs of concept, recommend approaches and technologies, and reduce technical debt.

Technical competencies required

• Strong grasp of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, and design patterns, including the ability to produce low-level designs and explain trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience with at least one modern backend language and framework, building services and APIs with clean code, test coverage, and refactoring.
• Hands-on experience building responsive, accessible, pixel-accurate interfaces with a modern frontend framework and attention to cross-device performance.
• Practical relational database experience, including schema design, queries, and data modeling.
