Role overview

The Senior Software Developer designs, builds and operates robust, maintainable software for government services.

The role spans the software development lifecycle and includes technical problem-solving, service reliability and collaboration in an agile multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain software in line with architecture and coding standards.
  • Deliver development, testing, deployment, monitoring and production support.
  • Translate user needs and designs into software and iterate based on evidence and feedback.
  • Develop REST APIs, web applications, microservices and containerised applications.
  • Improve reliability by understanding dependencies, data and system interactions.
  • Investigate production incidents, find root causes and implement lasting improvements.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines; review code, share knowledge and improve engineering practices.

Essential criteria

  • Strong experience developing REST APIs and/or web applications using Python and Django, with SQL experience; identified as the lead criterion.
