Senior Process Safety Engineer

Role overview

Process safety studies and design

• Lead process safety work for FEED, detailed design, EPC, and brownfield projects.
• Develop and review hazardous area classification, fire and gas mapping, EERA, QRA, safety cases, Bow-Tie analysis, consequence modeling, ALARP demonstrations, facility siting studies, and process safety philosophies.
• Lead HAZID, HAZOP, SIL classification, LOPA, design risk, constructability, and operational risk reviews; identify hazards and recommend risk reduction measures.
• Review designs against ADNOC, international, API, NFPA, IEC, ISO, and company requirements.
• Support design and verification of firewater, gas detection, fire detection, ESD, blowdown, and depressurization systems.

Management, coordination, and site support

• Support PSM system implementation and improvement, MOC reviews, incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and project compliance monitoring.
• Coordinate with clients, licensors, regulators, and multidisciplinary teams; mentor junior engineers and contribute to reviews and client presentations.
• Support commissioning, start-up, shutdown, troubleshooting, site audits, safety inspections, field verification, operational risk assessments, and facility modifications.
• KPIs include timely deliverables, closure of HAZOP/SIL/risk actions, compliance, effective risk reduction, and positive client feedback and audit outcomes.

Education and experience

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or equivalent.
• A master's degree in Process Safety Engineering is desirable.
• At least 12–15 years of Process Safety Engineering experience.
• FEED and EPC experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, LNG, or energy transition projects.
• Experience with ADNOC projects and standards is highly preferred.

Technical and professional qualifications

• Strong understanding of process safety principles, risk assessment, IEC 61508/61511 functional safety, fire and explosion analysis, and PSM systems.
• Proficiency with tools such as PHAST, SAFETI, Flaresim, PIPENET, FLARENET, exSILentia, or similar industry software.
• Strong knowledge of API, NFPA, IEC, ISO, and ADNOC engineering standards.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, facilitation, communication, stakeholder management, report writing, and presentation skills.
• TÜV Functional Safety Engineer, CFSE, NEBOSH, or similar certifications are advantageous.

Workplace

• The role is based in the UAE engineering office and includes project-site support.
