Role overview
Manages project accounting processes and supports accurate recording, allocation, and reporting under finance policies, IFRS, and donor requirements.
Supports project teams, budget management, compliance, and financial controls, and assists the Finance Manager.
Project accounting and oversight
- Reviews proposal budgets and clears them against finance frameworks, donor requirements, and overhead recovery policies.
- Maintains project codes and dimensions, uploads approved budgets, processes revisions and rollovers, and clears project expenditure commitments against available funds.
- Reviews ERP transactions and ledger entries, processes timesheets, and corrects accounting records as needed.
- Calculates project accruals and closeout adjustments, reviews partner and sub-grantee reports, and prepares donor financial reports.
- Coordinates project audits, supplies documentation, and follows up to resolve findings.
Finance operations and compliance
- Processes payroll, staff final settlements, CRM transactions, and eligible, authorized expense claims and fund requests.
- Monitors the Finance Dashboard and coordinates corrections to discrepancies.
- Maintains IFRS 16 lease schedules and accounting for right-of-use assets and lease liabilities.
- Supports period-end closing, accruals, reconciliations, intercompany adjustments, and bank reconciliations.
- Supports the Finance Manager with internal checks and financial controls.
Essential qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration with an Accounting major.
- 4–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2–3 years in project accounting in a donor-funded, research, or nonprofit organization.
- Working knowledge of IFRS, including IFRS 16, and hands-on ERP experience.
- Strong project costing, cost allocation, and budget management knowledge.
- Good written and spoken English; intermediate-to-advanced Excel and MS Office proficiency.
Desirable qualifications
- CPA, CA, ACCA, or CMA certification, fully qualified or at final qualification stage.
- International or multilateral research organization experience and familiarity with donor reporting requirements such as EU, USAID, or GIZ.
- Arabic language knowledge is an advantage.
