Lead Nielsen's Databricks-based data and AI ecosystem, managing the Data Platform and AI/Data Engineering teams.
Translate executive strategy into a unified roadmap and own people leadership, delivery, and budget stewardship.
Leadership and delivery
- Manage hiring, mentoring, performance, career development, and planning across both teams.
- Set OKRs and delivery cadences; resolve cross-team dependencies, sequencing conflicts, and risks.
- Serve as primary escalation point and engage executive stakeholders on cross-team priorities and trade-offs.
Platform, governance, and strategy
- Oversee Unity Catalog governance, data security, platform reliability commitments of 99.99%, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Define standards for emerging Databricks and AI capabilities through proofs of concept, security and architecture review, and phased adoption.
- Own Databricks budget planning and tracking, FinOps governance, headcount planning, and vendor and licensing decisions.
Stakeholders and engineering culture
- Work with Strategy and Architecture and engage senior leadership, Finance, HR, and Product stakeholders.
- Promote shared engineering standards, mentorship, and knowledge sharing across data and platform engineering.
Experience and expertise
- 10+ years in data/software engineering, including 3+ years managing engineering leads, managers, or senior individual contributors across distributed teams.
- Strong working knowledge of Databricks, including Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, Databricks Workflows, and Databricks SQL.
- Working understanding of GenAI application patterns, such as LangChain, vector databases, and Databricks Genie.
- Experience with engineering team development, OKRs and roadmaps, capacity planning, cross-team dependencies, and cloud or platform budgets.
- Ability to synthesize technical trade-offs and influence decisions.
