Join the Logistics Areas and Fees team as a Senior Java Developer.
Architect, develop, and operate backend services and distributed systems for delivery-area and fee calculations.
The role is remote in Alberta, Manitoba, or Ontario and reports to a Technology Manager.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and develop Java 21 microservices and AWS infrastructure resources using Terraform.
- Design scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs in a microservices architecture using REST APIs and message brokers.
- Participate in architectural decisions, RFCs, and technical design reviews.
- Collaborate across Product, QE, and Data to deliver releases and own work from design through release.
- Review code, mentor teammates, identify improvements and risks, and advise on product design.
- Join the paid on-call rotation.
Qualifications
- At least 7 years of experience building and architecting scalable, high-performance enterprise applications and leading complex software projects.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals and RESTful web service experience.
- Experience with Java; Spark or Quarkus experience is specified.
- Strong knowledge of distributed-system design patterns, including bounded contexts, sagas, eventual consistency, and the outbox pattern.
- Experience with message brokers and production deployment on AWS and Kubernetes (EKS).
- Experience with logging, monitoring, data persistence, continuous delivery, and Git.
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar is required.
- Streams and list operations, Domain-Driven Design, Redis, and Terraform are described as nice-to-have or a plus.
