Role overview

The Senior Fraud Analyst supports Manulife Bank’s intelligence-led fraud management program across retail banking, mortgages, specialized lending, payments, and digital channels.

The role combines investigations, analytics, risk assessment, and fraud-control optimization, partnering with Operations, Risk, Compliance, Product, Technology, and Enterprise Fraud teams.

Fraud investigation and monitoring

  • Investigate suspected fraud events; review alerts, transactions, customer activity, and supporting documentation.
  • Investigate control gaps, document findings and case outcomes, and escalate significant fraud events and emerging risks.
  • Analyze alerts and transactional activity, identify suspicious patterns and emerging threats, and recommend detection-rule and monitoring improvements.
  • Monitor control effectiveness and participate in prevention initiatives to reduce losses and customer impact.

Analytics, risk, and improvement

  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, KPIs, and trend analyses; analyze losses, recoveries, alert volumes, investigation times, and control effectiveness.
  • Provide actionable recommendations and support data-driven decisions through fraud-pattern and root-cause analysis.
  • Participate in risk assessments, identify control gaps, recommend mitigations, and support control testing and validation.
  • Assist with new prevention capabilities, contribute to policies and playbooks, and identify automation and efficiency improvements.
  • Contribute to transformation initiatives and strategic projects; stay informed about emerging fraud trends and mentor junior analysts.

Required qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, criminology, data analytics, risk management, or a related discipline.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in fraud investigations, fraud operations, financial crimes, risk management, banking operations, or compliance.
  • Knowledge of Canadian banking regulations and fraud management practices.
  • Experience with fraud analytics, reporting tools, SQL, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of Interac, EFT, RTR, digital identity, authentication, and account takeover fraud risks.

Preferred qualifications

  • CFE designation or progress toward obtaining it is preferred.
  • Complex query-writing experience, strong analytical skills, and experience identifying complex fraud patterns are listed as preferred.
  • Experience with fraud monitoring tools, case management systems, or analytics platforms is preferred.
  • Python for data manipulation is described as required despite appearing under Preferred Qualifications.

Work arrangement

  • The posting is marked #LI-HYBRID.
