Full Job Posting
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of Auro hardware products from concept through to production — including schematic capture, component selection, PCB layout review, and design for manufacture (DFM).
- Own hardware bring-up and validation — debugging new board designs, identifying and resolving electrical issues, and ensuring designs meet specification before firmware integration.
- Define and execute hardware test plans, characterising performance, validating against product specifications, and documenting results to support certification.
- Lead or support product certification activities — including EMC, electrical safety (e.g. UKCA, CE), and relevant life safety standards — working with test houses and certification bodies as required.
- Work closely with the firmware team to ensure hardware and software integration is clean, well-understood, and properly documented.
- Collaborate with mechanical and industrial design colleagues to ensure hardware designs are physically realisable, thermally managed, and manufacturable.
- Manage relationships with component suppliers and contract manufacturers, supporting the transition of designs from prototype to volume production.
- Produce and maintain high-quality engineering documentation — schematics, BOMs, test reports, design history files, and technical specifications.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers within the hardware team.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the hardware development process — including design reviews, version control, and documentation standards.
- Stay current with developments in relevant technologies, components, and standards, bringing ideas that improve the quality and capability of Auro’s hardware products.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
- Proven experience as a hardware or electronics engineer with a track record of taking products from concept through to production.
- Strong analogue and digital circuit design skills, with practical experience in schematic capture and PCB design (e.g. Altium Designer or equivalent). • Hands-on debugging and bring-up experience — comfortable with oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and bench-level fault finding.
- Experience with product certification — EMC testing, electrical safety, and/or relevant life safety or IoT product standards.
- Good understanding of firmware/hardware integration, with the ability to work effectively alongside embedded software engineers.
- Experience taking designs into volume manufacture, including DFM, BOM management, and working with contract electronics manufacturers.
- Strong documentation discipline — able to produce clear, complete engineering documentation that stands up to external scrutiny.
- Degree in electronic engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience with wireless technologies (LoRaWAN, BLE, Zigbee, or similar) or IoT product development (preferable).
Job Benefits
- This is a chance to take a senior engineering role at the hardware division of one of the UK’s fastest-growing fire safety specialists — designing and developing the life safety devices that underpin our fire alarm and detection offering, in a small, highly capable team where your work directly shapes the product. At Harmony, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward. Harmony is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all applicants for employment regardless of age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief. We want everyone who works with us to feel valued and to make a difference.
