Senior Economist - Research and Publications

Overview

Core Responsibilities

• Carry out research that will result in meaningful and impactful reports that provide input into the CBUAE economic policy and support the research of other members of the Research and Economic Analysis Department (READ).
• Direct the collection of relevant economic and financial information and the production of rigorous analysis on macroeconomic developments and key sectors relevant to the CBUAE, using advanced research and analytical methodologies.
• Support the preparation of high-quality analytical papers on economic, financial, and regulatory issues.
• Work closely with the Director of Research to assess macro-financial linkages in an increasingly globalised environment and evaluate their implications for the UAE.
• Strengthen the CBUAE’s analytical and modelling capabilities through the mentoring, development, and guidance of direct reports and high-potential staff.
• Support policy development across the CBUAE by ensuring that research is rigorous, policy-relevant, and aligned with evolving economic thinking and international best practice.
• Conduct detailed economic analysis on UAE GDP, inflation and trade activity, using robust methodology to analyse pricing and cost impact, make recommendations based on research.
• Lead the preparation of high-quality departmental communications, including policy briefs, presentations, seminars, speeches, and flagship publications.
• Support the analysis of external and international economic developments, including trade and global spillovers, and assess their potential implications for the UAE economy.
• Build strong collaborative relationships across the CBUAE and with relevant external institutions to support research excellence and address emerging regional and global economic challenges.
• Maintain awareness of leading practices and developments in economics and research, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of the READ’s analytical standards and effectiveness.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

People Management Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to direct reports towards the achievement of goals and objectives.
• Guide and motivate direct reports to enhance performance and produce quality work, and ensure that they are continuously developing for higher level roles.
• Prepare performance evaluation and appraisal reports of direct reports to assess subordinates’ productivity and progress and identify training needs.
• Ensure that team members are acquainted with the changing situation and the developments of CBUAE.
• Qualification and Experience
• Hold a master's degree in macroeconomics, monetary economics, financial economics, or a related field. PhD in Economics (monetary, financial, or international economics), or a closely related field such as Econometrics or Applied Statistics is desirable.
• Hold relevant professional certifications in economics, finance, or risk management, or financial analysis (considered an advantage).
• Possess a minimum of seven years of relevant professional experience.

Experience

• within a central bank, international financial institution, or the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is highly desirable.
• Have experience in a research institute or academia, which is also acceptable.
• Demonstrate proficiency in quantitative modelling and econometric analysis to support economic assessment and policy recommendations.
• Possess strong programming and analytical skills, including experience in scenario analysis and forecasting using tools such as Stata, EViews, MATLAB, R or Python.
• Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
