Essential requirements
- At least 8 years of cybersecurity experience, including 4 years in detection engineering, threat detection, or SOC engineering.
- Proven experience designing or leading detection engineering in a large or regulated organization.
- Expert hands-on Microsoft Sentinel skills, including KQL, analytics rules, workbooks, watchlists, and automation.
- Expert IBM QRadar skills, including AQL, custom rules, building blocks, DSMs, and reference sets.
- Experience translating cyber threat intelligence into operational detections.
- In-depth knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, D3FEND, Cyber Kill Chain, Diamond Model, Pyramid of Pain, and NIST CSF.
- Experience with detection-as-code, Git-based version control, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong understanding of attacker tradecraft across Windows, Linux, cloud, identity, and network environments.
- Scripting skills in Python and/or PowerShell.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable experience and certifications
- Banking or financial services experience is highly desirable.
- Sigma, YARA, threat intelligence platforms, purple teaming, adversary emulation, and red-team collaboration are desirable.
- Experience with Defender XDR, EDR, SOAR, threat hunting, or cyber threat intelligence is desirable.
- Preferred certifications include GIAC credentials, Microsoft SC-200, IBM QRadar certifications, CISSP, or OSCP.

- Build a detection engineering function and align it with business risk.
- Apply technical depth across Sentinel and QRadar and prioritize work using threat intelligence.
- Communicate detection posture to executives, auditors, and regulators.
- Mentor colleagues and spread effective engineering practices across the team.
- Make data-driven decisions using meaningful metrics and provide structured leadership during major incidents.
