Senior Commissioning Engineer - Instrumentation and Control

Role overview

Commissioning delivery and engineering

• Supervise commissioning activities against approved procedures, plans, specifications, and standards; monitor progress and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate teams, vendors, subcontractors, field personnel, and internal project functions; conduct site walks, reviews, and progress meetings.
• Review system drawings, loop diagrams, cause-and-effect charts, P&IDs, and procedures; provide technical guidance and resolve queries.
• Support system readiness, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control issues.
• Coordinate inspections, loop checking, calibration, functional testing, system validation, punch-list closeout, and NCR resolution.
• Support construction handover, align work with milestones, and ensure required resources, equipment, and documentation are available.
• Engage clients, consultants, licensors, vendors, and subcontractors in inspections, technical reviews, startup, and performance testing.
• Maintain progress, testing, inspection, permit, and startup records; prepare reports, commissioning dossiers, turnover packages, and handover documentation.
• Monitor manpower, equipment, productivity, and subcontractor performance; address bottlenecks and mitigate safety, quality, schedule, and system risks.

Experience and education

• Minimum 8–10 years of commissioning experience, including 3–5 years in a senior engineering role, on large-scale Oil & Gas EPC/EPCM projects.
• Experience in pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, performance testing, and plant handover.
• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Electronics, Control Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• ADNOC project experience is an advantage.

Technical skills and competencies

• Strong knowledge of instrumentation systems, DCS, PLC, ESD, fire and gas systems, SCADA, telecom interfaces, and integrated control systems.
• Ability to lead commissioning teams, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary interfaces; strong HSE, QA/QC, commissioning management, communication, troubleshooting, and stakeholder management skills.
