Role description
Support delivery of coordinated, accurate, information-rich electrical BIM models and drawings for complex infrastructure and building projects.
Work with electrical engineers, BIM teams, and multidisciplinary design teams, translating engineering information into compliant models and documentation.
Work with limited supervision, own assigned modeling and documentation packages, and support junior modelers.
Electrical modeling and documentation
- Develop models for power distribution, lighting, small power, containment, earthing, lightning protection, emergency systems, communications, security, and fire alarms as scoped.
- Produce coordinated plans, sections, elevations, schematics, schedules, details, and drawing sheets from approved models.
- Apply project templates, families, system definitions, shared parameters, view templates, filters, worksets, and naming conventions.
- Maintain valid equipment locations, cable routes, access zones, clearances, interfaces, and maintainability requirements.
Specialist electrical systems
- Translate single-line diagrams into coordinated 3D components and integrate UPS and battery-bank frameworks.
- Coordinate ELV pathways and spatial provisions for instrumentation, building automation and controls, fire alarms, and security surveillance.
- Develop layouts for transformers, switchgear, main distribution panels, and high-voltage infrastructure.
- Model multi-tier cable trays, raceways, and conduits with accurate routing, segregation, access, and coordination.
Coordination and project delivery
- Coordinate linked and federated models with mechanical, public health, fire protection, architecture, structure, civil, utilities, and other disciplines.
- Identify clashes, design inconsistencies, and missing information; communicate issues and support timely resolution.
- Use Autodesk Forma / ACC for document management, collaboration, coordination, publishing, issue tracking, reviews, and controlled information exchange.
- Prepare and update AutoCAD drawings, perform self-checks, respond to review comments, and support quality assurance and model-health processes.
- Follow project BIM plans, information delivery and Common Data Environment procedures, ISO 19650 principles, and quality requirements.
- Support model setup, digital-delivery planning, drawing production, data drops, and submissions to programme and budget.
- Interpret mark-ups, layouts, single-line diagrams, schematics, calculations, specifications, and red-line comments.
- Support multidisciplinary reviews and coordination meetings; guide and coach BIM and trainee BIM modelers.
- Contribute to standardization, content libraries, lessons learned, and continuous workflow improvement; follow health and safety requirements.
Qualifications and experience
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Substantial electrical BIM delivery experience; typically 4–7 years for a senior modeller.
- Experience on complex building and infrastructure projects, such as rail, tunnels, aviation, industrial plants, utilities, commercial or healthcare buildings, and data centres.
- Strong Revit MEP experience and working knowledge of AutoCAD for electrical modeling, documentation, and coordination.
- Practical Autodesk Forma / ACC experience, including Docs, Design Collaboration, Model Coordination, and issue management.
- Understanding of electrical systems, access, maintenance, clearances, mechanical interfaces, BIM processes, model federation, clash detection, and ISO 19650.
- Experience with model and drawing checks and quality-control procedures; attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines with limited supervision.
- Effective written and verbal communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Teams, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.
