Your Opportunity

The Senior ATM/CNS Systems SME will provide senior technical leadership, systems engineering expertise, and design assurance for the ATM modernization program, ensuring that all Communication, Navigation, Surveillance, and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems are properly planned, designed, integrated, validated, operationally suitable, and compliant with program, operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.

The role is responsible for overseeing the technical lifecycle of complex ATM/CNS systems and integrated operational platforms, supporting the successful delivery of a fully integrated “System of Systems” environment across operational and contingency ATC facilities within a live operational airport environment.

Key Accountabilities

  • **Technical Leadership & Systems Engineering*** Act as the technical lead for the ATM/CNS design management and systems integration workstream.
  • Provide expert technical advisory services across planning, design, implementation, integration, validation, optimization, operational readiness, and transition activities.
  • Lead and coordinate technical engineering activities associated with ATM automation, surveillance, communication, navigation, AIM, AMHS, and operational support systems.
  • Ensure all technical solutions align with the approved Concept of Operations (CONOPS), operational requirements, safety objectives, and program delivery strategy.
  • **Design Management & Technical Assurance*** **Organize and manage:**
  • + Detailed site surveys
  • + Technical workshops
  • + Engineering coordination sessions
  • + Interface reviews
  • + Technical design reviews
  • **Lead and chair:**
  • + Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR)

+ Critical Design Reviews (CDR)

  • + Technical readiness reviews
  • **Review and verify:**
  • + System Design Documents (SDD)
  • + Technical specifications

+ Interface Control Documents (ICD)

  • + Technical compliance matrices
  • + Engineering calculations
  • + Integration architectures
  • Ensure technical compliance with ICAO, GCAA, operational, cybersecurity, safety, and performance requirements.
  • **Systems Integration & Operational Compatibility*** Oversee end-to-end integration of:
  • + ATM Automation Systems

+ Aman / Dman

+ Surveillance Systems

+ VCCS Platforms

+ AIM / AMHS Systems

  • + Safety Nets
  • + Operational interfaces
  • + External ANSP systems
  • Ensure interoperability with existing and future Employer, GCAA, and regional ATM environments.
  • Coordinate interface management activities between contractors, suppliers, operational stakeholders, and third-party systems.
  • Review operational suitability and maintainability of technical solutions within live ATC environments.
  • **Technical Compliance & Lifecycle Management*** Lead technical assurance activities across all program phases including design, implementation, testing, transition, operational readiness, and handover.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, integration methodologies, test procedures, test results, defect closure evidence, and operational acceptance artefacts.
  • Oversee obsolescence management strategies and ensure long-term maintainability and lifecycle support requirements are achieved.
  • Verify that all technical systems meet required operational availability, resilience, redundancy, and performance targets.
  • **Technical Risk & Problem Resolution*** Identify technical risks, integration gaps, operational constraints, and design conflicts affecting program delivery.
  • Lead technical issue resolution activities associated with:
  • + Integration failures
  • + Interface mismatches
  • + Technical deviations
  • + Operational compatibility concerns
  • + Design deficiencies
  • Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and technical recovery planning.
  • Escalate critical technical risks and operational concerns to program governance forums where required.
  • **Testing, Operational Readiness & Acceptance*** Support and oversee:
  • + Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)

+ System Integration Testing (SIT)

  • + Operational Testing
  • + Operational Readiness activities
  • + Transition and cutover activities
  • Validate technical readiness and operational suitability prior to operational acceptance.
  • Support ORAT activities, shadow operations, operational trials, and final operational transition.

**Stakeholder Coordination & Governance*** Coordinate with

  • + Engineering teams
  • + Operational stakeholders
  • + Safety teams
  • + Cybersecurity specialists
  • + Human Factors teams
  • + Contractors and OEMs
  • + Regulatory authorities
  • Provide technical assurance input to program governance boards, readiness reviews, certification activities, and operational acceptance forums.
  • Support senior management with technical reporting, engineering recommendations, and operational decision-making.
  • **Decision-Making Authority*** Recommend technical acceptance, rejection, redesign, retesting, or corrective actions for ATM/CNS systems and associated deliverables.
  • Approve technical recommendations and engineering assurance findings within delegated authority.
  • Escalate major technical, operational, safety, integration, or compliance risks affecting program delivery or operational readiness.
  • Provide technical assurance recommendations for operational transition and acceptance decisions.

**Required Qualifications*** Bachelor’s Degree in

  • + Electronics Engineering
  • + Telecommunications Engineering
  • + Avionics Engineering
  • + ATM/CNS Engineering
  • + Aerospace Engineering
  • + Computer Engineering
  • + or related technical discipline.
  • Professional certifications in ATM systems, systems engineering, project management, or aviation technologies are advantageous.
  • **Required Experience*** Minimum 10–15 years of experience in ATM/CNS systems engineering, Air navigation systems, Airport operational systems, ATM modernization programs and Safety-critical aviation environments.
  • + ATM automation systems

  • Strong experience working within brownfield operational airport environments.
  • Experience supporting operational ATC systems and mission-critical aviation infrastructure.
  • Experience working with ICAO, GCAA, and international ATM regulatory frameworks.
