Overview
A Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy work environment by implementing safety policies, conducting inspections, and promoting compliance with occupational health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and enforce company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
- Ensure compliance with local safety regulations, client requirements, and company standards.
- Carry out risk assessments and recommend corrective and preventive measures.
- Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and awareness training for employees and subcontractors.
- Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its availability.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and prepare detailed reports.
- Maintain safety records, permits, inspection reports, and incident documentation.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as working at heights, lifting operations, excavation work, confined space entry, and hot work.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures, fire drills, and evacuation exercises.
- Ensure safety signages, emergency equipment, and first-aid facilities are maintained and accessible.
- Liaise with project managers, supervisors, clients, and regulatory authorities on safety matters.
- Stop any unsafe work activities that pose immediate danger to personnel, equipment, or the environment.
- Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
