Road Engineer

Role overview

Design responsibilities

• Design road, junction, interchange and access geometry; parking areas, service roads and pedestrian facilities.
• Prepare pavement designs and layouts, signage, road marking and road safety layouts.
• Prepare plans, longitudinal profiles, cross sections, grading and standard details.
• Prepare quantities and bills of quantities, support cost estimates, and produce design basis reports, calculation reports and technical specifications.

Existing roads and coordination

• Review existing road information, topographic surveys and as-built drawings; assess how new works and crossings affect existing roads and highways.
• Prepare traffic diversion and temporary traffic management options.
• Coordinate road design with drainage, wet and dry utilities, and structures.
• Prepare authority submissions and NOC applications, and follow them through approval.
• Coordinate with the client, Abu Dhabi road and transport authorities and other stakeholders; attend technical and coordination meetings and follow up actions.
• Respond to review comments and update the design.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of UAE road and highway design experience.
• Good knowledge of Abu Dhabi road design standards, manuals and approval procedures.
• Hands-on experience with Civil 3D or OpenRoads and AutoCAD.
• Ability to prepare designs, reports and quantities with limited supervision.
• Good written and spoken English.

Preferred qualifications

• Airport or large infrastructure project experience is preferred.
• Traffic diversion and temporary traffic management design experience is preferred.
• A UAE driving licence and registration with the UAE Society of Engineers are preferred.
