Job Overview:
The restaurant hostess is the face of the restaurant, responsible for welcoming guests with a warm smile, managing reservations, and ensuring a smooth seating process. They act as the initial point of contact for customers, setting the tone for the dining experience. The hostess must maintain a friendly and professional demeanor while efficiently coordinating the dining room flow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greeting Guests: Warmly welcome guests as they arrive, making them feel valued and appreciated.
- Managing Reservations: Handle phone and online reservations, confirming details and accommodating special requests when possible.
- Seating Guests: Escort guests to their tables, balancing the seating to ensure servers are not overwhelmed and that guests are seated promptly.
- Waitlist Management: Manage the waitlist during busy times, providing accurate wait times and keeping guests informed.
- Menu Presentation: Offer menus to guests as they are seated and inform them of any specials or promotions.
- Assisting with Guest Requests: Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely and courteous manner.
- Coordinating with Staff: Communicate effectively with servers, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Ensure the entrance, host stand, and surrounding areas are clean and organized.
- Handling Payments (if required): Sometimes assist with processing payments, especially if the restaurant uses a seating-to-payment system.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent Communication: Clear, friendly, and professional verbal communication skills.
- Customer Service Orientation: A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage reservations and waitlists efficiently.
- Calm Under Pressure: Maintain composure during busy times and handle stressful situations with grace.
- Teamwork: Work collaboratively with the restaurant team to provide the best guest experience.
- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with reservation systems and point-of-sale (POS) systems, if applicable.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role, especially in the hospitality or restaurant industry, is preferred.
Work Environment:
- The hostess usually works in a fast-paced environment, standing for extended periods.
- Shifts may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on the restaurant’s operating hours.
This role is crucial for ensuring guests feel welcomed and well cared for from the moment they enter the restaurant until they leave.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: AED3,000.00 - AED4,000.00 per month
