Resident Engineer - Healthcare

Overview

• Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and manage the on-site supervision team, including Resident Engineers (REs), Assistant Resident Engineers (AREs), and Site Inspectors across various disciplines (Civil, Structural, Architectural, MEP, FF&E).
• Allocate tasks, monitor performance, and ensure effective coordination within the supervision team.
• Foster a proactive and collaborative site environment focused on quality, safety, and project delivery.

• Construction Supervision & Quality Assurance

• Act as the primary technical point of contact for the client, contractor, and other consultants on-site.
• Oversee and direct all aspects of construction supervision, ensuring compliance with design drawings, specifications, contractual requirements, and international/local building codes.
• Conduct regular and thorough inspections of all construction activities, including civil, structural, architectural finishes, and complex MEP systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, IT, security, kitchen, laundry equipment).
• Pay meticulous attention to the quality of finishes, detailing, and aesthetics critical for hotel brand standards and guest experience.
• Review and approve contractor's shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and samples, ensuring they meet project requirements and design intent.
• Witness and approve site tests (e.g., concrete, steel, soil, MEP systems commissioning) and ensure proper documentation.
• Implement and enforce the project's Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) plan, identifying and addressing non-conformances promptly.
• Monitor the installation and integration of FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) to ensure compliance with design and quality standards.

• Project Progress & Schedule Management

• Monitor the contractor's progress against the approved project schedule.
• Identify potential delays, assess their impact, and recommend corrective actions to the Project Director.
• Review and verify contractor's progress reports and payment applications.
• Attend and contribute to regular site meetings (progress, technical, coordination) with the client, contractor, and other stakeholders.

• Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Compliance

• Ensure strict adherence to project-specific and statutory HSE regulations on site.
• Monitor the contractor's implementation of their safety plan and conduct regular safety walk-throughs.
• Report any safety incidents or concerns to the Project Director and ensure appropriate measures are taken.

• Contract Administration & Documentation

• Assist in the review and evaluation of contractor claims, variations, and change orders.
• Maintain comprehensive and accurate site records, daily diaries, progress photographs, inspection reports, and meeting minutes.
• Ensure proper documentation of all communication, instructions, and decisions made on site.
• Review and approve as-built drawings and operation & maintenance manuals.

• Stakeholder Communication & Reporting

• Prepare and submit regular progress reports, technical reports, and ad-hoc reports to the Project Director and client.
• Maintain effective communication channels with all project stakeholders, including the client, contractor, designers, and specialist consultants.
• Proactively identify and resolve technical issues and conflicts on site, escalating complex matters to the Project Director as needed.
• Expertise in supervising the installation and commissioning of specialized hospital systems, including
• Medical gas systems (oxygen, vacuum, compressed air, etc.)
• Sterile environment controls (HVAC for operating theatres, ICUs)
• Radiation shielding (for imaging departments)
• Nurse call systems, patient entertainment, and communication systems
• Medical waste management systems
• Integrated building management systems (IBMS) tailored for hospitals
• Specialized finishes and materials required for hygiene and durability in healthcare settings.
• Understanding of infection control principles in construction and ensuring their implementation.
• Here's what you'll need
• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related construction management
• Minimum of 15- 20 years of progressive experience in construction supervision, with at least 10 years specifically dedicated to hospital or complex healthcare facility projects.
• Technical Skills
• In-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, and quality standards, particularly for healthcare facilities.
• Strong understanding of MEP systems, medical gases, and specialized hospital equipment installation.
• Proficiency in interpreting complex architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with international building codes, healthcare regulations, and local authority requirements in the Middle East.
• Experience with FIDIC contracts is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD).
• Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite).
