Role Purpose

To oversee the enterprise-level of R&D portfolio governance, ensuring optimal strategic alignment, prioritization, and performance optimization across all research and development initiatives.

The R&D Portfolio Advisor provides expert counsel on portfolio strategy, integration, and commercialization pathways, ensuring R&D investments generate maximum technical, financial, and societal value.

The role acts as a critical link between R&D operations, executive leadership, and external partners to sustain a balanced, high-impact portfolio.

SPortfolio Governance and Strategic Oversight

  • :Advise on the establishment and refinement of governance frameworks that ensure strategic alignment and transparency across portfolio initiatives
  • .Oversee portfolio prioritization processes and investment evaluations based on strategic fit, risk profile, and potential impact
  • .Guide leadership decisions on continuation, acceleration, or termination of program streams based on data driven insights
  • .Advise and contribute to the development of Technology Division’s vision, mission, and long-term strategy and roadmap in line with the SANS business strategy and objectives, review the strategy periodically to assess the alignment and drive course correction, if required
  • .Portfolio Planning and Performance Management
  • :Develop and implement performance monitoring frameworks to assess progress, milestones, and ROI of portfolio initiatives
  • .Recommend adjustments to balance short-term operational projects with long-term strategic R&D efforts
  • .Provide independent analysis of portfolio health and alignment with SANS’s strategic objectives
  • .Resource Strategy and Risk Optimization
  • :Advise on optimal allocation of financial, technical, and human resources across portfolio programs
  • .Identify and manage portfolio-level risks, defining proactive mitigation and contingency strategies
  • .Recommend improvements to ensure efficient capacity utilization and resilience in portfolio delivery
  • .Research Integration and Commercialization Pathways
  • :Provide guidance on the transition of successful R&D outcomes into commercialization, licensing, and operational adoption
  • .Partner with the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) to build structured IP protection and monetization strategies
  • .Advise leadership on commercialization models and market partnerships to elevate the value of R&D outputs
  • .Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Advisory
  • :Serve as the senior liaison for portfolio-related interactions with internal leadership and external collaborators
  • .Foster alignment between R&D, operations, finance, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth implementation of portfolio projects
  • .Represent SANS in technical forums, funding discussions, and industry programs related to R&D collaboration
  • .Portfolio Foresight and Strategy Evolution
  • :Conduct strategic foresight exercises to identify emerging technology trends, market disruptions, and research opportunities
  • .Advise on re-scoping or diversifying the portfolio to align with future aviation innovation priorities
  • .Lead scenario analysis and long-range planning to enhance R&D resilience in changing market or regulatory environments
