Overview

  • The Coronary Care Unit (CCU) provides comprehensive 24-hour nursing care for adult patients requiring intensive care for a condition usually cardiac in origin, including:
  • Acute cardiac life support and cardiac arrest care
  • Congestive heart failure/cardiomyopathy
  • Recurrent/malignant dysrhythmias
  • Pre & Post TAVI, ICD, Mitral clip, EPS
  • Pre & Post Heart Transplant care including rejection management
  • Patients requiring high doses of inotropic support (Dopamine, Dobutamine, Levophed)
  • Pre cardiac surgery preparation and care
  • Patients experiencing severe respiratory failure requiring supportive measures such as endotracheal intubation with mechanical ventilation
  • Patients requiring emergency bedside intervention such as pericardiocentesis, chest drain and central line insertion.
  • Close invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring of patients with multi system failure Patients receiving percutaneous interventional procedures for cardiac conditions (PTCA, stent implantation, valvuloplasty and catheter ablations) are also treated. Additional conditions treated include cardiogenic shock, hyper/hypotensive crisis, endocarditis, hemodynamic instability, malfunctioning AICDs and pacemakers.

Reporting To: Head Nurse or as assigned.

Responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care utilizing the nursing process and meeting the established standard of nursing practice and performance.

Demonstrates leadership competencies while in charge or acting as shift resource/team leader.
