Description
*Staff Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system, encompassing autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well and in all settings.
It includes the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and the care of ill, disabled and dying people.
Advocacy, promotion of a safe environment, research, participation in shaping health policy and in patient and health systems management, and education are also key nursing roles (ICN, 2018).
To establish and maintain a therapeutic partnership with patients and their families to achieve optimum health and well-being through appropriate assessment, critical analysis of clinical information, clinical reasoning, care planning, intervention, evaluation, and education.
Registered nurses may practice in a variety of clinical contexts depending on their educational preparation and practice experience.
They are accountable for ensuring all health services they provide are consistent with their education and assessed competence, meet legislative requirements and are supported by appropriate standards.*
Essential Job Functions and Key Accountability
- Professional responsibility, performance and practice:
- Accepts responsibility and accountability for all actions and decision making within scope of practice as defined by DOH
- Adheres to the Code of Conduct for DOH, and the organization
- Completes mandatory and unit specific competencies and demonstrates ongoing compliance with appropriate evidence.
- Develops and maintains own professional portfolio.
- Takes responsibility for own professional development and actively engages in ongoing self-directed learning.
- Obtains accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Units in compliance with DOH requirements.
- Complete mandatory annual staff training requirements.
- Participates in self and peer evaluation including reflective practice
- Maintain any qualifications, including license and certificates such as Basic Life Support and other mandatory training within established timeframes.
- Complying consistently with all organization policies, procedures and practices relevant to position.
- Demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession.
- Management of nursing care:
- Ensure you carry out your work in a way that is person/patient focused and meets professional standards
- Provides nursing care to achieve identified outcomes, utilizing appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible.
- Undertakes a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment of a patients needs in an organized and systematic manner.
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation, and maintains confidentiality of all information.
- Upholds patients’ rights to make informed choices.
- Advocates for patients and their families in all clinical activities
- Acts appropriately to protect oneself and others when faced with unexpected patient and/or family responses, confrontation, personal threat or other crisis situations.
- Evaluates patients' response to nursing interventions and progress toward expected outcomes in partnership with the patient, their family, and the health care team.
- Provides appropriate health education and information to the needs of the patient and their family.
- Effectively establishes, maintains and concludes therapeutic relationships with patients and their families receiving healthcare.
- Accepts responsibility for ensuring that his/her nursing practice and conduct meet the standards of professional, ethical and relevant legislated requirements.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply the principles of cross-cultural knowledge and culturally sensitive skills in implementing culturally congruent safe nursing care.
- Practices nursing in a manner that the health consumer determines as being culturally safe.
- Evaluates her/his own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, and relevant statutes, rules, and regulations.
- Participates in supporting, developing and teaching colleagues to enhance nursing care outcomes.
- Attains knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.
- Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.**Antenatal BFHI Education Role Specifications:**
- Liaise with the physicians to encourage and refer mothers to attend the antenatal BFHI education sessions.
- Counseling Skills: Utilise listening and learning skills in conversation with a mother. Use skills for building confidence and giving support when in conversation with a mother.
- Describe to the mother the breastfeeding support services available in the healthcare facility and the community.
- Engage with the mother in antenatal conversation about breastfeeding
- Explain to the mother implementation of immediate and uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact.
- Discuss with the mother and family how breastfeeding works.
- Describe with the aid if a dummy breast and pictures how to latch a baby correctly onto the breast; and shows the mother the different ways to hold a baby for breastfeeding.
- Explain to a mother how to recognize and respond to a baby’s feeding cues.
- Demonstrate to a mother the steps of expressing breast milk by hand, using a dummy breast and doll.
- Describe to a mother how some difficulties with breastfeeding and how she can prevent or resolve them.
- Support the non-breastfeeding mother, after informed decision, with safe ways of infant feeding.
- Collect and record data on the education given to the mother and her family in the electronic module for Step 3 of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. Participate in the data analysis and develop subsequent action plans as necessary.
- Discuss the importance of attending Lactation review after discharge for care continuity.
- Participate in implementing and enforcing the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk substitutes in the hospital.
- Communication and collaboration:
- Facilitates effective communication between the patient, family and the interdisciplinary healthcare team, as required.
- Practices nursing in a negotiated partnership with the patient where and when possible.
- Communicates effectively with patient and members of the health care team.
- Communicates effectively in a variety of formats in all areas of practice.
- Collaborates with the patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practice.
- Collaborates and participates with colleagues and members of the healthcare team to facilitate and coordinate care.
- Recognizes and values the roles and skills of all members of the healthcare team in the delivery of care.
- Establishes and maintains professional boundaries with patients and members of the healthcare team.
- Upholds the organizations customer service standards at all times.
- Make a personal contribution towards effective and efficient working relationships within your team, and with other departments.
Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
DOH licensed / DOH Exam Passer / Exam Exempted (DHA/MOH license will be considered).
Fluent in English,Arabic is advantage
Experience
Minimum of recent 2 years' experience in a hospital setting.
With post-partum nursing care experience.
