Railway Operations Planner | Transit Service Analyst

Role overview

Planning and operations responsibilities

• Develop operating plans, schedules, and timetables using passenger demand and network capacity.
• Analyze ridership, travel patterns, peak demand, service utilization, and seasonal trends.
• Assess track and platform capacity, train turnaround times, service intervals, and operating constraints.
• Plan weekday, weekend, holiday, event, maintenance, and temporary-demand services.
• Monitor punctuality, cancellations, delays, passenger loads, and schedule adherence; analyze disruptions and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, presentations, service change proposals, and operational risk assessments.
• Coordinate incident review, recovery planning, contingency services, engineering possessions, and maintenance windows.
• Assess passenger transfers, station activity, congestion, train capacity, and resource needs.
• Maintain timetable versions and planning records; support data quality, service standards, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Transportation Planning, Railway Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transport Management, Operations Research, Logistics, Urban Planning, or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional experience in railway operations, public transport planning, transit scheduling, transport analytics, or service performance management.
• Strong understanding of railway operations, timetables, service frequency, passenger capacity, network constraints, and service planning methods.
• Ability to analyze operational datasets, assess disruptions and risks, and prepare reports, timetable documentation, or improvement proposals.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with advanced spreadsheet analysis is advantageous.
• Transport planning software, railway scheduling systems, operational control platforms, Power BI, Tableau, statistical analysis, forecasting, and scenario modeling are preferred, beneficial, or advantageous.
• Knowledge of railway capacity planning, platform utilization, turnaround requirements, safety procedures, regulations, and service standards.
• Strong analytical, numerical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; able to collaborate across teams and manage deadlines.
