Overview
Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all welding, fabrication, material inspection, and related construction activities are carried out in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures, applicable codes, quality requirements, and HSE standards.
The role includes inspection coordination, PQR/WQT activities, NDT/NDE coordination, weld repair witnessing, material traceability verification, inspection reporting, quality documentation, and client/vendor coordination.
The position supports project execution by monitoring welding quality, identifying non-conformances, maintaining proper records, and ensuring final inspection, certification, and handover requirements are completed.
Responsibilities
- :
- Review project specifications, approved procedures, Inspection and Test Plans, WPS/PQR, and applicable codes before inspection.
- Carry out welding, fabrication, material, fit-up, welding clearance, and construction/installation inspections.
- Attend inspections as per the approved Inspection and Test Plan.
- Generate RFIs with adequate notice for Hold, Witness, and Inspection points.
- Coordinate with client representatives to ensure timely inspection completion.
- Conduct and coordinate PQR and WQT activities as per project requirements.
- Ensure welders work in accordance with approved WPS.
- Verify welding parameters during execution.
- Record welding qualification and production welding parameters as per PWPS/WPS.
- Inspect materials at site, workshop, vendor, and off-site locations.
- Coordinate field and laboratory testing to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Conduct inspection, sampling, and testing of materials to verify conformity with contract requirements.
- Verify calibration status of all testing equipment before use.
- Perform inspection of fit-up joints, welding clearances, and material traceability.
- Mark spools for radiography and other NDT activities as required.
- Prepare NDT requests and maintain weld control records.
- Review and interpret NDT/NDE results.
- Witness weld repairs and verify qualification of personnel performing special processes.
- Inspect contractor works to ensure compliance with contract documents and accepted industry practices.
- Identify and report non-conformances.
- Raise NCRs and maintain proper quality records.
- Follow up on corrective and preventive actions implemented by contractors.
- Record and document deviations from the Quality Program.
- Maintain comprehensive records related to project execution.
- Verify accuracy of as-built drawings as per actual site conditions.
- Ensure required statutory approvals, NOCs, permits, and site documents are available before execution.
- Provide comments on Technical Queries raised by contractors.
- Perform functional checks and mechanical completion inspections.
- Monitor production quality to ensure compliance with client requirements.
- Carry out final inspections for project completion, certification, and handover.
- Prepare test packs and dossiers and obtain client approvals.
- Comply with all project HSE requirements, including PPE and permit systems.
- Promote safe working practices at site.
- Coordinate with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal teams as required.
- Be flexible to work at in-house, vendor, site, and off-site locations during day and night shifts, including urgent requirements.
Requirements
- Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience as a Welding Inspector in the oil & gas or construction industry.
- Certified Welding Inspector qualification, CSWIP 3.2, is mandatory.
- ASNT NDE Level II certification is required.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards such as ASME, API, and AWS.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, inspection techniques, NDT methods, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, WPS/PQR, technical specifications, and project documents.
- Good knowledge of inspection reporting, documentation, and quality records management.
- Strong understanding of material inspection, welding inspection, weld repair verification, and traceability requirements.
- Knowledge of HSE requirements, PPE compliance, and permit systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good technical judgement and decision-making ability.
- Effective communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work with clients, vendors, contractors, and internal project teams.
- Strong teamwork and collaborative working approach.
- High level of integrity, honesty, adaptability, composure, and customer focus.
- Willingness to workday and night shifts, including off days in urgent cases.
- Flexibility to support additional or revised project scope as required
