Research individuals, alumni, corporations, and foundations to identify prospects and assess their capacity, interests, philanthropic activity, and connections to college priorities.
Provide insights supporting annual fundraising, major gift cultivation, alumni engagement, strategic partnerships, and a sustainable fundraising pipeline.
The role combines research, analysis, relationship intelligence, and data management to inform fundraiser priorities and solicitation strategies.
Prospect research and analysis
- Use creative research techniques, formal and informal data sources, news and trends, competitor and sector analysis, and platforms such as iWave and Raiser's Edge.
- Develop detailed prospect profiles that translate research into useful insights for fundraising colleagues.
- Assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, and links to college fundraising priorities.
- Develop and implement ethical research and intelligence-gathering strategies.
- Monitor priority sectors and the competitive landscape across education and philanthropy for opportunities and potential major donors.
- Lead development of prospecting lists and research profiles with the Fund Development and Alumni Engagement team.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen alumni volunteer and leadership pipelines, relationships, recognition, workforce partnerships, and philanthropic engagement.
- Work with the Development Officer, Corporations and Foundations, on a grants calendar and future opportunities.
- Recommend products, services, and fundraising opportunities based on identified priorities and needs.
- Advise frontline fundraisers on moves management and solicitation strategies.
- Research individual and corporate prospects for Sales and Workforce Development initiatives, partnerships, and relationship-building.
Data and pipeline management
- Maintain comprehensive, current, and user-friendly prospect, partner, and donor records.
- Regularly update and verify information and apply strong data classification and categorization practices.
- Work with pipeline management and advancement operations colleagues to support database integrity.
