Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR) is a government programme to improve connectivity between major cities in the North of England.

The programme covers a Northern Growth Corridor connecting Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Bradford and York, with services to Newcastle, Hull and Chester also affected.

The government announced a three-phase approach: Leeds links and improvements in Phase 1, Liverpool-Manchester service improvements in Phase 2, and cross-Pennine links in Phase 3.

Major construction is expected in the 2030s and will continue into the 2040s.

The role supports NPR development and its agreed milestones and outputs for the Department for Transport.

  • Contribute to the developing NPR portfolio and complete timetables for the North of England that demonstrate programme benefits.

  • Strong experience and knowledge of project development and the project lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail governance processes.
