Principal Wet Utilities Engineer

Role overview

Design and delivery

• Prepare reports and design documentation for water, wastewater, irrigation, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
• Supervise hydraulic modelling and calculations for wet utility systems.
• Ensure deliverables meet project schedules, appropriate design standards, and contract requirements.
• Coordinate design with other disciplines to deliver complete, integrated solutions.
• Incorporate best practice and pursue productivity improvements and innovative delivery methods.

Review, approvals, and coordination

• Review progress and provide design updates to design managers, project managers, and clients as required.
• Check other contributors' wet utility deliverables for quality.
• Meet developers, clients, and stakeholders to obtain approvals and present proposals.
• Coordinate submissions, deliverables, reviews, and approvals against contract requirements, reporting deviations.
• Provide design inputs to other discipline reports when required.
• Prepare cost and quantity estimates for wet services.

Candidate specification

• Minimum bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional qualification such as CEng or similar, with membership in a professional institution such as ICE.
• Postgraduate and significant experience, preferably in design consultancy work.
• Experience across the design lifecycle, from master planning to detailed design.
• Strong experience designing pressurised and gravity systems using Civil3D and hydraulic modelling.
• Ability to manage design and approvals with project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple teams across diverse geographical and cultural settings.
• Experience designing and obtaining approvals for infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia.
• Knowledge of Saudi local authority requirements, guidelines, and standards.

Skills and tools

• ProjectWise, Infraworks, Navisworks, and OpenUtilities experience is preferable.
• Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
• Use adaptive, strategic, and critical thinking, manage priorities and time, and seek continuous improvement.
