Within Microsoft Fabric, the Platform team builds and operates the unified foundation that brings together all Fabric workloads into a single, cohesive experience.

This team is central to delivering Fabric as a complete, end-to-end intelligence platform.
The Fabric Platform Shell team is dedicated to creating a unified and extensible data development environment on the web.
Our mission is to build a simple yet fully functional developer environment that attracts and retains developers, ensuring that more solutions are built on Fabric and more consumers use it.
We aim to provide a web experience that is easy to understand and navigate, enabling first-party and third-party workloads to onboard seamlessly.
The Fabric Platform Shell team is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership across key areas of the Microsoft Fabric platform experience.
This role combines hands-on engineering with ownership of architecture, technical strategy, and execution for large-scale initiatives spanning multiple teams and geographies.
The Principal Software Engineer will mentor engineers, influence technical direction across partner teams, and help shape the future of Fabric's shared platform experiences.

Required/Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Additional or preferred qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
Job Requirements: Other & Additional
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- Experience leading the architecture and delivery of large-scale web applications, cloud services, or platform capabilities. Experience serving as a technical lead, mentoring engineers, and influencing technical direction across teams. Experience building modern full-stack solutions using web technologies such as JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and cloud services. Experience driving complex initiatives across multiple teams and delivering results in highly collaborative environments. Interest in AI-assisted and agentic development experiences, developer productivity, or intelligent platform capabilities. Experience building developer platforms, SaaS products, data platforms, analytics systems, or other large-scale enterprise software is a plus.
