- Own product definition, photonic integrated circuit architecture, and specifications for coherent transmit/receive chains and optical components.
- Develop and optimize link budgets, analyzing performance, channel impairments, component margins, and foundry capabilities.
- Establish design-for-test and design-for-manufacturing practices, characterization strategies, and test protocols.
- Lead design reviews and set direction for component performance, power efficiency, and manufacturability.
- Coordinate across photonics, RFIC/EIC, DSP, packaging, product engineering, foundry, test, and product leadership teams.
- Develop design automation, simulation frameworks, and test infrastructure for coherent optical solutions.
Required qualifications
- MS or Ph.D. in integrated optics, silicon photonics, electrical engineering, or applied physics.
- At least 5 years of industry experience in silicon photonics, integrated optics, or a relevant field.
- Extensive silicon photonics device design expertise, including performance characterization and validation.
- Laboratory experience in optical engineering testing, fiber-waveguide coupling, and design verification testing.
- Experience with RF design, testing, and characterization of photonic devices.
- Programming skills in Python or C/C++; general understanding of physics, especially optics or electromagnetics.
Preferred experience
- Previous Nokia internship or co-op and proficiency with optics design tools such as Lumerical are advantageous.
- Experience with integrated optical or optoelectronic device design or characterization, fiber optics, or integrated optics is advantageous.
- Photonic integrated circuit design, modeling, and layout experience is advantageous.
- Numerical or physics-related programming and high-frequency design or modeling experience are advantageous.
