About Astera Labs

Astera Labs provides rack-scale AI infrastructure through connectivity solutions and an Intelligent Connectivity Platform integrating CXL, Ethernet, NVLink, PCIe, UALink, and COSMOS software.

Role Overview

The Principal Product Applications Engineer supports Scorpio Smart Fabric Switches that connect GPUs, CPUs, and accelerators at rack scale.

The role guides hyperscalers, AI system builders, and platform partners from evaluation through production deployment.

This customer-facing role leads design-in, Scorpio-related debug, customer collateral, cross-functional initiatives, and feature validation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer architecture, design-in, and evaluation engagements; conduct on-site and remote platform bring-up, debug, and performance tuning.
  • Translate customer needs into feedback for product, silicon, and firmware teams; influence post-silicon validation and perform system integration.
  • Debug protocol, signal integrity, firmware, and software issues with hardware, firmware, and SI/PI teams.
  • Serve as the Scorpio applications expert, mentor junior engineers, and represent the company at forums, standards bodies, and customer executive reviews.
  • Author white papers, technical collateral, and training materials; drive and validate features across PCIe Gen 6/7 and UALink.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years in product applications, systems engineering, or post-silicon validation on high-speed connectivity or networking silicon.
  • Strong physical-layer and high-speed serial interface knowledge, including PCIe, Ethernet, UALink, UCIe, or similar.
  • Hands-on lab bring-up, debug, and system integration experience using scopes, BERTs, and protocol analyzers.
  • Direct customer engagement experience with hyperscaler, cloud, or Tier-1 OEM/ODM customers on complex technical deployments.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain technical details to customer audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with PCIe Gen 6/7, UALink, or UCIe protocols and compliance testing; familiarity with AI/ML rack-scale architectures, GPU fabrics, and accelerator interconnects.
  • Python or shell scripting for validation and diagnostics; standards-body contributions or technical publications.

Compensation

  • Salary range is CAD 165,000 to CAD 210,000, depending on experience, level, and business need.
  • The role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, incentives, and benefits.
