Job Summary

Chronosphere, a Palo Alto Networks company, provides an observability platform for modern containerized environments.

The Infrastructure organization is hiring Principal Engineers for production engineering and developer infrastructure tracks.

Applicants will be considered for both tracks through a unified interview process.

Workplace

  • The role is explicitly remote.

Production Engineering

  • Solve complex distributed systems problems at very large scales.
  • Scale global production infrastructure and architecture using Kubernetes, GCP, and AWS.
  • Build and operate highly scalable, resilient backend services.
  • Develop internal monitoring, alerting, and production optimization tools.

Developer Infrastructure

  • Design high-scale developer tooling, dynamic testing environments, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Define and manage ephemeral environments with declarative infrastructure as code using Terraform.
  • Eliminate development lifecycle bottlenecks through architecture, tooling, and telemetry processing.

Principal-Level Leadership

  • Own large technical initiatives from inception through delivery while balancing feature velocity and technical debt.
  • Define platform standards and reference architectures across a one- to three-year horizon.
  • Consult on infrastructure best practices and mentor engineering teams.

Required Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of relevant experience in high-scale infrastructure, production engineering, systems architecture, or developer platform roles.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one backend language, including Go, Python, Java, C++, or Rust.
  • 5+ years of deep experience with distributed systems, distributed tracing, AWS or GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux internals, process management, resource isolation, and networking protocols.
  • Proven ability to estimate complex work, debug distributed architectures, and identify design edge cases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or active interest in AI coding assistants and agentic platforms.
  • Experience with AI-enabled agentic development workflows or LLM-driven orchestration tools.
  • Active engagement with or experience in open-source communities.

Compensation

  • The annual base salary range is $147,000–$237,500.
  • Compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus.
