Principal Data Scientist

Position overview

Responsibilities

• Apply data mining, analytics, and machine-learning methods to understand customer product use, adoption, and outcomes.
• Lead junior and senior data scientists and analysts; model customer behavior and trends to identify growth and improvement opportunities.
• Build predictive and descriptive models, including customer lifetime value and retention models.
• Own complex projects and a data science roadmap; translate analyses into actionable business or product strategy.

Minimum qualifications

• MS or PhD in mathematics, physical sciences, statistics/analytics, computer science, or another relevant field.
• Proficiency in Python; experience with relational SQL and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with big-data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, or Hive.
• Experience with statistical programming tools or Python data-science toolkits, including examples such as R, MATLAB, and SAS.
• Experience with data science tools such as pandas, Jupyter, scikit-learn, or TensorFlow.
• Familiarity with statistics, including hypothesis testing, regression, and experimental design.
• Familiarity with machine learning, including classification, clustering, regularization, optimization, and dimensionality reduction.
• Experience with reporting programs such as Domo, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI; data visualization; and customer analytics.
• Strong communication skills to explain complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences.

Compensation

• For Canada-based roles, the expected starting base salary is CAD 129,000–189,200 annually; offers may vary by experience and location.
• Compensation may also include annual cash bonuses, stock grants, and benefits.
