Payroll Specialist
Role Overview
As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate, efficient and timely processing of payroll for all employees across the business. Working Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, you will be part of a fast-paced and collaborative Payroll Team, taking responsibility for a range of payroll activities from end to end. You will use your previous payroll experience, strong technical knowledge and excellent attention to detail to ensure employees are paid correctly and on time, while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a busy corporate environment, takes pride in delivering a high standard of service and can confidently manage competing priorities while meeting strict payroll deadlines.
You will be responsible for:
Process end-to-end payrolls, including employee changes, amendments and variations, ensuring accuracy and adherence to payroll deadlines.
Administer statutory payments and deductions, including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP, and process tax code changes and relevant starter and leaver documentation, including P45s and P46s where applicable.
Use Time and Attendance systems to collect, review and verify employee working hours, overtime and absence data.
Respond to employee payroll queries, investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions where necessary, providing a professional and timely service.
Prepare and submit accurate payroll reports for internal departments and external bodies, maintain confidential payroll records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
About You
You will have a minimum of two years’ payroll experience, preferably gained within a corporate environment, with a strong understanding of end-to-end payroll processing. A CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll certification is desirable. You will have a sound knowledge of payroll legislation, statutory payments, deductions and compliance requirements, alongside experience using payroll systems and Time and Attendance software. Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyse and manage payroll data accurately are also essential.
Highly organised, proactive and detail-oriented, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, confidentiality and meeting deadlines are paramount. You will be a supportive team player with excellent communication and customer service skills, able to explain payroll matters clearly, resolve queries effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues across the business. With a high level of integrity and a commitment to continuous improvement, you will take pride in delivering a reliable, efficient and professional payroll service.
