Painter with Landscape Experience

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling, and repairing imperfections.
• Finish timber structures including fences, pergolas, decks, gazebos, gates, screens, and garden features.
• Paint metal structures, garden furniture, landscape fixtures, and other outdoor elements.
• Apply primers, undercoats, sealants, protective coatings, and finishing products.
• Select and mix materials to project specifications; use brushes, rollers, and spray equipment safely.
• Protect plants, lawns, paving, buildings, and surrounding areas during painting.
• Carry out touch-ups, repairs, and maintenance painting; inspect work and rectify defects.
• Maintain tools and materials, keep work areas clean and safe, and follow manufacturer and workplace procedures.
• Coordinate with landscapers, carpenters, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.

Qualifications and experience

• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant painting experience; landscaping, outdoor construction, or property maintenance experience is preferred.
• Practical knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, coatings, and finishing products.
• Experience with outdoor and weather-resistant paints and protective coatings.
• A relevant certificate, diploma, or vocational qualification is preferred; painting apprenticeship or trade training is advantageous.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of painting and surface preparation techniques and ability to achieve a professional finish.
• Ability to match colours, select appropriate coatings, and safely use brushes, rollers, spray guns, and sanding equipment.
• Good understanding of primers, sealers, stains, varnishes, and exterior paints.
• Able to stand, bend, kneel, climb, work at heights when required, and lift and carry materials and equipment.
• Able to work independently and as part of a landscaping team.

Workplace

• Work location is in person; the work includes outdoor environments.
