Overview

Consultant Neurosurgeon

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions
• Perform elective and emergency neurosurgical procedures involving the brain, spine, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves
• Manage conditions including brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, spinal disorders, intracranial hemorrhage, aneurysms, hydrocephalus, degenerative spine diseases, congenital abnormalities, and peripheral nerve disorders
• Interpret diagnostic investigations including MRI, CT scans, cerebral angiography, and neurophysiological studies
• Conduct outpatient consultations and provide comprehensive inpatient care
• Participate in trauma and emergency neurosurgical services, including on-call rotations
• Develop individualized treatment plans and oversee postoperative care and rehabilitation
• Collaborate with neurologists, orthopedic spine surgeons, intensivists, radiologists, oncologists, rehabilitation specialists, and other multidisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and preventive care
• Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and continuing medical education (CME)
• Supervise and mentor junior physicians, residents, fellows, and allied healthcare professionals
• Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare authority regulations, hospital policies, and international clinical standards

Qualifications

• MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution
• MS/DNB in General Surgery or equivalent
• MCh/DNB/Fellowship/CCT/Board Certification in Neurosurgery
• Eligibility for or possession of a valid DOH Consultant license
• Minimum 8-10 years of post-specialty experience, including experience as a Consultant Neurosurgeon in a tertiary care hospital
• Fellowship training in Spine Surgery, Skull Base Surgery, Neuro-oncology, Pediatric Neurosurgery, Vascular Neurosurgery, or Functional Neurosurgery is an advantage
