About This Role
Position Summary
The Materials Technical Engineer is responsible for specializes in the selection, testing, and approval of building materials to ensure they meet quality, safety, and cost standards
.
They bridge the gap between design architects, procurement teams, and site contractors
Key Responsibilities
1.
Evaluating and selecting appropriate materials (e.g., metals, concrete, cladding) for projects based on performance, durability, and cost.
2.
Preparing, reviewing, and submitting material technical documents and shop drawings for consultant approval.
3.
Testing raw materials and finished products to ensure they meet industry codes (ASME, ASTM) and project specifications.
4.
Liaising with vendors for material samples, data sheets, and compliance with specifications.
5.
Conducting site inspections to ensure correct material installation and addressing technical queries.
6.
Proposing cost-effective alternative materials without compromising quality
Qualifications & Skills
1.
Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
2. 2–5+ years of experience in materials testing, specifications, or quality control, often within building materials, interior fit-out, or construction firms.
3.
Strong knowledge of materials, finishes, and supplier markets
4.
Knowledge of AutoCAD/Revit for drawing review, and proficiency in analyzing technical standards
5.
Excellent organizational and negotiation skills
6.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
7.
Proficient in MS Office; experience with design or procurement software is an advantage
