Manager, Software Engineering (Platform Engineering)

Opportunity

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop platform engineers across career stages and geographies.
• Set team mission, roadmap, priorities, and measures for adoption, developer experience, and outcomes.
• Build reusable paths for service creation, delivery automation, identity, networking, observability, and policy as code.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Data Science, and Application Engineering to develop reusable platform products.
• Guide technical decisions across cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, service platforms, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Drive adoption through self-service tools, developer feedback, usage insights, and measurable outcomes.
• Establish governance and guardrails while maintaining security, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Promote production readiness, incident learning, clear ownership, and sustainable on-call practices.
• Identify risks and trade-offs; balance productivity, reliability, security, costs, and long-term sustainability.
• Mentor engineers and emerging leaders and foster inclusion, trust, and accountability.

Requirements

• Experience leading and developing software or platform engineering teams, including distributed or cross-functional teams.
• Recent technical experience with cloud-native software, developer platforms, infrastructure automation, distributed systems, or related domains.
• Ability to prioritize internal developer needs and measure platform experience and outcomes.
• Experience using data and metrics to guide investment, prioritization, and improvement.
• Ability to engage in technical discussions without taking ownership away from engineers.
• Experience balancing delivery, reliability, security, compliance, cost, and maintainability.
• Strong written and verbal communication for engineering, product, and executive audiences.
• Commitment to coaching, feedback, psychological safety, and inclusive practices.

Additional experience that gives an edge

• Internal developer platforms, platform-as-a-product capabilities, or paved-road engineering experiences.
• AWS or another major cloud provider, containers and orchestration, infrastructure as code, GitOps, CI/CD, and observability.
• Policy as code, identity and access management, service catalogs, developer portals, governance, or adoption metrics.
• Platform telemetry, developer insights, cloud cost optimization, FinOps, or engineering economics.
• Responsible use of generative AI, coding assistants, agents, or delivery automation.
• Security, compliance, and auditability embedded into engineering workflows.

Compensation

• Expected salary: CAD 135,000 to CAD 165,000.
