Purpose

Mastercard describes its mission as powering economies and empowering people through secure, simple, smart, and accessible payment choices.

Role overview

Product leader shaping Mastercard's acceptance strategy, emerging payment innovations, acceptance capabilities, and best practices for merchants and ecosystem partners.

The role turns market signals, ecosystem needs, and emerging technologies into strategies, pilots, and scalable acceptance capabilities for physical commerce.

Acceptance strategy and best practices

  • Analyze coverage, merchant needs, capabilities, trends, and barriers; identify expansion opportunities and underpenetrated verticals.
  • Create acceptance metrics and reporting frameworks, and maintain best practices covering architecture, enablement, integration, deployment, POS, software-based acceptance, and emerging technologies.
  • Develop playbooks, decision frameworks, implementation guidance, and reference models; advise teams, partners, and customers.
  • Build external perspectives on next-generation acceptance.

Ecosystem and product leadership

  • Engage customer-facing teams, merchants, partners, and ecosystem stakeholders to identify needs, barriers, capabilities, and innovation opportunities.
  • Identify ecosystem and distribution gaps and recommend partnerships to scale new acceptance models.
  • Translate ecosystem insights into strategy, innovation priorities, and roadmap recommendations.
  • Lead initiatives from opportunity assessment through validation, recommendations, roadmap definition, and handoff to execution or commercialization.
  • Represent Mastercard at industry events, customer engagements, workshops, and strategic partner discussions; prepare executive presentations, business cases, and recommendations.

Experience and expertise

  • Product management experience with card acceptance, including merchant, acquirer, or PSP experience.
  • Strong understanding of acceptance ecosystem and architecture, including merchants, acquirers, payment facilitators, gateways, processors, ISVs, POS platforms, commerce platforms, and payment networks.
  • Experience evaluating emerging payment technologies and commerce models and developing or launching acceptance solutions, pilots, proofs of concept, or ecosystem-enabled capabilities.
  • Ability to take opportunities from market insight through validation, recommendation, and roadmap development.

Capabilities

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business case development skills.
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation abilities; able to simplify complex topics into actionable recommendations.
  • Track record of translating trends and technologies into product strategies, validated concepts, or scalable solutions.

Compensation

  • For a role performed in Canada, the posting lists a Toronto pay range of CAD $121,000–$169,000 and possible eligibility for a discretionary annual incentive program.
  • Compensation depends on location, experience, and qualifications.

Security responsibilities

  • Employees are expected to follow Mastercard security policies, protect information confidentiality and integrity, report suspected security violations, and complete mandatory security training.
