The Logistics Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing the transportation, storage, and distribution of construction materials, equipment, and supplies to ensure projects are completed efficiently, safely, and on schedule.
The role involves managing logistics operations, optimizing supply chain processes, controlling costs, and coordinating with project teams, suppliers, subcontractors, and transport providers.
Logistics Planning & Coordination
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to support construction projects.
- Plan and coordinate the delivery of materials, equipment, and tools to project sites.
- Ensure timely availability of resources to avoid project delays.
- Monitor inventory levels and arrange replenishment as needed.
Supply Chain Management
- Coordinate with procurement teams, suppliers, and vendors to ensure efficient material flow.
- Track shipments and resolve transportation or delivery issues.
- Negotiate transportation contracts and service agreements.
- Evaluate supplier and logistics provider performance.
Warehouse & Inventory Management
- Oversee warehouse operations, including receiving, storage, and dispatch of materials.
- Implement inventory control procedures to minimize waste, loss, and shortages.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and reporting systems.
Transportation Management
- Manage company fleets and third-party transportation providers.
- Optimize delivery schedules and transportation routes.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and company policies.
- Monitor vehicle utilization, maintenance schedules, and fuel consumption.
Project Support
- Work closely with project managers and site engineers to forecast material requirements.
- Coordinate logistics activities for multiple construction sites simultaneously.
- Support mobilization and demobilization of equipment and personnel.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure logistics operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments related to transportation and material handling.
- Promote safe loading, unloading, and storage practices.
Cost Control & Reporting
- Develop and manage logistics budgets.
- Monitor logistics costs and identify opportunities for savings.
- Prepare regular reports on logistics performance, inventory status, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CSCP, CPL, or equivalent are preferred.
- 5–10 years of logistics or supply chain experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Experience managing transportation, warehousing, and inventory operations.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and site logistics.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in ERP, inventory management, and logistics software.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory requirements related to construction logistics.
