Key Responsibilities
- Provide learning support for Special Educational Needs students in class or in withdrawal situations, either 1:1 or in small groups.
- Develop knowledge of the needs of the student and seek advice from the Inclusion Manager/Special Educational Needs Coordinator and class teacher.
- Aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
- Make or modify resources as suggested and advised by the Inclusion Manager/Special Educational Needs Coordinator or Educational Psychologist.
- Be involved in the planning and preparation of day-to-day class activities.
- Support the Special Educational Needs student in the playground and outside activities, being mindful of health and safety and encouraging safe interactive play.
- Motivate and encourage the Special Educational Needs student to attempt activities they may be unsure of, providing positive reinforcement, praise, and rewards according to the student's behavior modification plan.
- Attend in-service training and relevant meetings to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.
- Report any progress towards targets for Special Educational Needs students with a behavior Support Plan.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree or Associate degree.
- Courses in Education and/or Psychology preferred.
- A Childcare qualification level 2 and/or 3 would be desirable.
- Two continuous years of experience dealing with Special Educational Needs students as a full-time shadow teacher (preferred).
- Priority will be given to those who have dealt with Special Educational Needs students in helping them take part in the learning process through inclusive practice.
- Understanding of lesson planning, IEPs, and learning objectives to contribute to growth and development.
