Lead, Software Engineer

Role overview

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, and maintain core platform components in an agile squad.
• Lead technical work across the software lifecycle and resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Assess architectural options, frameworks, infrastructure, and tools for scalability, security, performance, maintainability, and cost.
• Improve automated integration testing and promote TDD and BDD.
• Establish coding, tooling, and secure development practices; support enterprise and regulatory security requirements.
• Review code and designs, mentor developers, and contribute to technical discussions.
• Translate business requirements into technical plans and collaborate across product, analysis, QA, engineering, and business teams.
• Document designs, diagrams, and flows; help manage technical risks, timelines, and budget considerations.
• Experiment with technologies and approaches to improve the platform and engineering practices.

Experience and qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including technical leadership on large-scale projects from inception through delivery.
• Experience with agile teams and cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficiency in a strong combination of Java/Spring, Oracle PL/SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript/React/CSS, and REST API design and integration.
• Expertise in scalable systems, microservices, event-driven and layered architecture, asynchronous publish-subscribe, Kafka streaming, and event sourcing.
• Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP; Docker, Kubernetes, serverless computing; and testing tools such as Selenium, Playwright, JMeter, or Cucumber.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, caching, data partitioning, SOLID, domain-driven design, and software design patterns.
• Responsible use of AI and agentic development tools; C, C#, or WPF experience is an additional skill.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Support schedule

• Occasional evening and weekend overtime is required for support.

Compensation

• CAD $110,000–$160,000 salary range; compensation may vary based on candidate and location factors.
