LEAD ENGINEER – AI & PRODUCT ENGINEERING

Role and company

What you will own

• Translate business requirements into product and technology solutions with the founders.
• Architect and personally develop the core platform, including backend services, APIs, workflows, integrations, and data models.
• Build AI-enabled features, including RAG, enterprise search, document intelligence, workflow automation, and AI agents where appropriate.
• Integrate external enterprise systems, APIs, and third-party services.
• Balance speed, scalability, security, and maintainability in architecture decisions.
• Contribute to cloud deployment, CI/CD, monitoring, debugging, and production troubleshooting.
• Set standards for code quality, security, testing, documentation, and releases.
• Review code and designs, mentor engineers, help recruit and develop the team, and take broader engineering ownership as Trafasa grows.

Core engineering requirements

• Strong hands-on backend/software engineering experience and proficiency in Python, Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, or an equivalent backend stack.
• Solid understanding of REST APIs, databases, authentication, distributed applications, and system integration.
• Experience designing and delivering production applications, not only prototypes or proofs of concept.
• Strong SQL and database fundamentals; PostgreSQL or a similar relational database is preferred.

AI and cloud experience

• Practical AI knowledge sought includes LLM applications, RAG and vector/semantic retrieval, embeddings, document processing, prompt/context engineering, structured outputs, and tool/function calling.
• Relevant AI areas also include agentic workflows, evaluation, hallucination/grounding, guardrails, human-in-the-loop processes, and AI observability, cost, and latency considerations.
• Exposure to LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, Azure OpenAI, Bedrock, Vertex AI, or equivalent is useful; demonstrated engineering ability matters more than tool lists.
• Practical experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, Docker, CI/CD, Git, cloud deployment, logging, and monitoring is sought.
• Kubernetes experience is useful but not mandatory.

Candidate profile

• The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of experience.
• Should enjoy hands-on building, convert ambiguous business problems into working products, and operate without a large engineering organization.
• Should make sensible trade-offs, take ownership when issues arise, and explain technology decisions clearly to non-technical founders and business stakeholders.
• Should be curious about AI while recognizing that not every problem requires AI, and have ambition to grow into broader engineering leadership.
