Production and machinery
- Plan and coordinate daily production according to project schedules; monitor targets, progress, delays, bottlenecks, output, and downtime.
- Ensure work follows approved drawings, specifications, and material requirements; improve workflow and reduce downtime.
- Oversee setup and safe operation of CNC/CNP, nesting, drilling, routing, panel and beam saw, edge-banding, sliding table, table and circular saw, drilling, press, sanding, spindle-moulder, planer, and thicknesser machinery.
- Verify cutting lists, CNC programs, drawings, and machining requirements; coordinate operators and programmers to minimize waste.
- Troubleshoot basic machine and production problems, coordinate maintenance, and monitor machine utilization and breakdown repairs.
People, quality, materials, and reporting
- Supervise and allocate carpenters, machine and CNC operators, assemblers, helpers, and other production staff; monitor performance, attendance, productivity, and discipline.
- Train and guide workers on production methods and machine procedures; maintain communication and teamwork.
- Inspect products throughout production for dimensions, joints, edges, finishes, hardware locations, assembly quality, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Resolve quality issues with QA/QC and reduce defects, rework, rejection, errors, and material waste.
- Check drawings, cutting lists, job specifications, and material requirements; coordinate material availability with the store or warehouse.
- Label, protect, store, and prepare completed items for delivery; coordinate preventive maintenance and ensure machinery is safe.
- Ensure PPE, factory safety procedures, housekeeping, and organized production areas; report unsafe conditions, accidents, and equipment failures.
- Prepare daily and weekly production reports and maintain records of output, targets, downtime, staffing, shortages, quality issues, wastage, rework, and machine utilization.
Qualifications and experience
- A diploma or bachelor's degree in woodworking, joinery, production, manufacturing, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- At least 3 years of joinery or woodworking factory production experience, preferably in a supervisory role.
- Strong practical knowledge of CNC/CNP machines and woodworking machinery.
- Ability to read technical drawings, shop drawings, cutting lists, and CNC drawings or programs.
- Custom furniture, architectural joinery, doors, kitchens, wardrobes, wall paneling, and other interior woodwork experience is advantageous.
- Strong production planning and workflow management knowledge; understanding of MDF, plywood, veneer, solid wood, laminates, and other boards.
- Joinery hardware and installation knowledge is preferred.
